São Paulo Graffiti & Street Art
There is graffiti all over this city. The difference here from most places, is you literally see it everywhere. You'll even see it painted across the top of 20 story buildings.
Street Art is out there as well, but it's probably less than 1% of what's out there. I have noticed that the same people throwing up gang related graffiti, never seem to disturb the art. That is kind of cool in a way. The city enables different forms of street art by having black lights in some of the tunnels. I've seen cool paintings, abstract art, even a coexist painting outside a tunnel. These two things seem to live side-by-side. Here's an example from Liberdade where you see the Godzilla painting and then all sorts of graffiti on the building behind it:
Here's an example of street art under a bridge. You'll notice there is graffiti, but it's off to the sides:
Here's the only example I could find of a building with graffiti across the top in my photos from the other day. It's across the top of a four story building:
One thing you WON'T see here are billboards. I didn't realize how much of the city and landscape they block out until we were driving around here and we could just see everything with no obstructions! Apparently they are illegal here.
I hope to have my camera more handy in our next day here so I can snap some other photos of the art.
Physical Security Pt. 2
Small businesses here are in buildings along the side of the street. The size of the shops are generally about the size of a small bedroom. When they close, they pull down a metal garage door to secure their place. This is common in every part of town we've been.
